Original Resident Licensing

  1. To obtain a resident agent's license, applicants must claim Ohio as their home state.
  2. Applicants must complete required pre-licensing education with an approved provider.
  3. Applicants must complete the Insurance Commissioners Page 1 of 5 and complete a criminal background check after successfully passing at least one of the following lines of insurance:
    a. Life / Variable Products
    b. Accident & Health
    c. Property
    d. Casualty
    e. Personal Lines
  4. To obtain a resident title agent license, applicants must claim Ohio as their home state, complete the Producer Application for Title License and complete a criminal background check after successfully passing the Ohio Title Insurance examination.
  5. To obtain a resident surety bail bond license, applicants must claim Ohio as their home state.
    a. Applicants must complete surety bail bond pre-licensing education with an approved provider.
    b. Applicants must complete the Surety Bail Bond Agent License Application, complete a criminal background check, and submit a $150.00 application fee made payable to "State of Ohio Treasurer" after successfully passing the Ohio Surety Bail Bond examination.
  6. Applicants must take and pass an examination to confirm that they have attained at least a minimum level of knowledge regarding the statutes and regulations affecting the insurance profession and the products and services that they will sell to the public. The applicant needs to make sure that the application, pre-license education course, if required, and examination are all for the same lines of authority.
  7. Applicants who have an inactive Resident or Non-Resident license in OH can not apply electronically.
  8. All applications for Variable Products license must already have an active State “Life” LOA license on the PDB or be applying for a Life” LOA license at the same time.
