State Specific Individual Requirements for initial application
Every individual applicant for a District of Columbia non-resident insurance producer license must meet the following requirements:
- Background question documentation can be submitted via the NIPR Attachment Warehouse at: https://pdb.nipr.com/docMgmt/main.html
- To apply for Surplus Lines authority, applicant must hold equivalent license in resident state.
- Applicant MUST hold active Property or Casualty LOA or be applying simultaneously for Property or Casualty to apply for Bail Bond.
- Applicant with a status reason of ‘Provisional’ will be deferred to the state for review.
- Residence address cannot be a P.O. Box.
State Specific Business Entity Requirements for initial application
- Every business entity applicant for a District of Columbia non-resident insurance producer license must:
- Background question documentation can be submitted via the NIPR Attachment Warehouse at: https://pdb.nipr.com/docMgmt/main.html
- Business entities must have a legal business type:
- Corporation
- Partnership
- Sole Proprietorship
- Limited Liability Company (LLC)
- Limited Liability Partnership (LLP)
- Unincorporated Association
- To apply for Surplus Lines authority, applicant must hold equivalent license in resident state.
- Applicant MUST hold active Property or Casualty LOA or be applying simultaneously for Property or Casualty to apply for Bail Bond.
- Applicant with a status reason of ‘Provisional’ will be deferred to the state for review.
- At least one DRLP must be listed on the application.
- All listed DRLPs must cumulatively cover the LOAs on the business application.
- Each DRLP must have an active license in DC (as a resident or non-resident) for the license type being applied for by the business entity.
- Please Note: Applicant should not attempt to license a Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) and the Business Entity on the same day. Please submit the license application for the DRLP first. Applicant may submit the license application for the Business Entity after the DRLP’s data has been loaded to the PDB, usually one or two business days after the license has been approved.
