State Specific Requirements

  • The affiliation of every producer with a business entity is required to be reported to the state.  Report affiliations electronically at http://www.dora.state.co.us/insurance/.
  • All Officers, Partners and Directors must be listed whether or not they are licensed producers.
  • Employment history data will be ignored by the state.
  • Property and Casualty are required when Surplus Lines is selected.
  • Resident Producer Life is required when Resident Producer Var Life & Var Annuity Product is selected.
  • At least one CO Licensed responsible producer must be listed on application.
  • Only one CO Licensed responsible producer must be listed on application.
  • The responsible producer must have an active CO license.
  • Business type must be a Corporation, Partnership, Limited Liability Company, Limited Liability Partnership or Sole Proprietor.
  • Var Life & Var Annuity Product applicants must provide CRD Registration number on the application.
  • Business Entity applicants who provide a Trade Name must register the Trade Name with CO DOI prior to the approval of application.
  • All TITLE Producers to include Individuals, Attorney Title and Title Agency applicants are required to access the following website and complete an Affiliated Business Arrangement Disclosure Form immediately after licensure or prior to renewal of a Title license. Please be advised that should the applicant fail to submit the required form in accordance with Colorado Law, the license will be subject to suspension, revocation, and or a fine. Please DO NOT attempt to reinstate an inactive NR license using this process. If your license has been inactive for any period of time you must reapply through the Non-Resident License application.

  • Licenses renew biennially. The window should open 90 days prior to the license expiration date.
  • CO issues licenses to individuals for 2 Year(s). CO Individual licenses expire based upon:
    • Last day of birth month biennially
  • CO issues licenses to Business Entities for 2 Year(s). CO Business Entity licenses expire based upon:
    • First day of the following month after the issue month biennially
    • Colorado offers no grace period. Reinstatements of license are considered a new application and will need to be processed through RL.
    • Fees are Per LOA.
  • Please be advised only one license renewal transaction may be submitted electronically.  Colorado allows an applicant to renew some or all lines of authority in that transaction.  If applicant elects to not renew some lines of authority in your online license renewal transaction, applicant will not be able to submit an additional electronic renewal application for additional lines at a later time.  It will be necessary to contact the state directly to renew the additional lines. 
  • Business Entities - Trade Names must be reported to CO DOI.
